Pushing pedals with the German Aerospace Center (DLR)

[nggallery id=170]

During “Langen Nacht der Wissenschaften” (Science Night) on 2 June 2012, various institutes from Berlin and Potsdam are participating for the 12th time. In a launch of new electromobility vehicles, Realgestalt is assisting the “ELKE” program which focuses on electric freight bikes for courier and express-delivery services. This is a project from the Institute of Transport Research at DLR that is investigating the degree to which cars, trucks and vans can be replaced with electrical freight bikes. For the most part, it is large cities with complex traffic networks where demands are increasing for improved mobility and more effective courier and express delivery services. Looking to the future, it is also clear that environmentally friendly transportation is necessary to ward off global warming. ELKE will have 40 “iBullit” electrocars and 4 “eCargoCruiser” electrical freight bikes on the road during Science Night to present potential benefits for the environment and traffic infrastructure. Realgestalt contributed by developing the branding concept for the various vehicles as well as designing the website and other advertising media. But first of all we want to make sure that everybody at the “Smartest Night of the Year” also knows what options are available for replacing the automobile.
